[Facts]
- やはり西欧諸国や北米各国の一人当たりGDP水準は高い．こうした国々以外では，中東の一部産油国やシンガポール，（国ではなく地域であるが）香港も上位にランクしている．
- Table 1 において，ルクセンブルク（Luxembourg）、リヒテンシュタイン（Liechtenstein） は2000年以降一人当たりGDPで世界第１位，２位の座を占めている．しかし、両国とも人口規模では小国である．2000年に注目してみると，相対的に大きな人口を有する国々の中では日本が世界一位であった．
- 日本は2000年以降どんどんその順位を下げていき，2024年にはとうとう世界第40位となってしまった．
- As expected, Western European and North American countries have high levels of GDP per capita. Besides these countries, some oil-producing countries in the Middle East, Singapore, and Hong Kong, which is not a country but a region, also rank highly.
- As shown in Table 1, Luxembourg and Liechtenstein have ranked first and second in the world in terms of GDP per capita since 2000. However, both countries have small populations. Looking specifically at the year 2000, Japan ranked first in the world among countries with relatively large populations.
- Since 2000, Japan has steadily fallen in the rankings, and by 2024, it had finally dropped to the 40th place in the world.

１．日本は足許では，一人当たりGDPに関して韓国や台湾にも追い抜かれてしまっている．すなわち，日本は世界ではなく東アジア地域においてでさえ，国民一人当たりGDPが高い国であるとは言えない状況にある．著者はこの主要因を1990年代以降の日本における国内投資の少なさに求めることができると考えている．この点については別記事で説明する予定である．
- At present, Japan has been overtaken by South Korea and Taiwan in terms of GDP per capita. In other words, Japan can no longer be regarded as a country with a high GDP per capita, not just globally, but even within the East Asian region. The author guesses that the primary cause of this can be attributed to the lack of domestic investment in Japan since the 1990s. This point will be discussed in a later article.
